Board of Christian Day School

This boardplans and administers the total educational program of Good Shepherd Preschool. Its Chairperson leads this Board to provide on our congregation’s behalf a Christ-centered pre-school ministry that, in a caring and professional environment, encourages socialization skills and is developmentally and academically appropriate.

(St. Mark 9:37; 10:13-14) (Jesus said,) “Whoever welcomes one of these little children in my name welcomes me; and whoever welcomes me does not welcome me but the one who sent me.” People were bringing little children to Jesus to have him touch them, but the disciples rebuked them. When Jesus saw this, he was indignant. He said to them, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.

Good Shepherd Preschool is a Christian educational opportunity offered by Good Shepherd Lutheran Church for three, four and five year old children. This Gospel- based and professionally led program emphasizes academic and spiritual growth, peer interaction, and the development of socialization skills in a supportive, structured and loving atmosphere. It is a ministry of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church to assist families in the early Christian training of their children. The approach and methods are non-denominational, and are of a general nature acceptable to all Christian churches. In most cases, the early training of a child is the most significant training he/she ever receives. An early childhood experience oriented in God’s love provides a child with added richness. A child’s mental, emotional, social and physical development is encouraged through his spiritual peace and joy in God.

Good Shepherd Preschool News (Antoinette Quinn and Barbara Gustainis, Teaching Staff): The preschool is excited to begin the 2011-2012 school year, for three and four year old children.  We welcome back all the familiar faces, and we are anxious to meet our new friends.  As always, our goals are multi-faceted.  We strive to encourage:  learning of academic skills, Bible study, social interaction, immersion in all areas of the arts, and creative/independent thinking, within a safe, comfortable, accepting and enjoyable atmosphere. All of this is enveloped by the all encompassing umbrella of Christian faith.

This year school starts on Wednesday, September 7th, for the M/W 3 year old class beginning at 9:10, FOR ONLY ONE HOUR WITH PARENTS PARTICIPATING, ending, on this day only, at 10:10.  From Monday, September
12th forward, the hours will be 9:10-11:20.

School, for the M-Th 4 year old class, will begin with the regular hours (no parent participation) on Wednesday, Sept. 7th, 12:40-3:00.  The T/Th 3 year old class begins the school year on Thursday, Sept. 8th, at 9:10, FOR ONLY ONE HOUR WITH PARENTS PARTICIPATING, ending, on this day only, at 10:10. From Tuesday, Sept. 13th forward, the hours will be 9:10-11:20.

We are looking forward to a successful and productive school year!!  See you soon.

Good Shepherd Preschool – APRIL (Antoinette Quinn and Barbara Gustainis, Teaching Staff):  What a wonderful Easter month!  April was very active with an Easter egg hunt, for all classes; Easter goodies filling their bags; seeds planted now in bloom; changes in the weather and more of an emphasis on academic learning, as the year begins to wind down.

With the weather becoming more pleasant the children will be enjoying the playground, and many outside activities.  Bike riding is a fun time for all!!

Cowboy/cowgirl week for the four year old class begins during the middle of the month.  It will include individual book writing, necklace making, “fire” building for a “cookout”!!  All the children will be dressed up with their hats, bandanas and sheriff badges!  It will be lots of fun!!

Thank you to all the families for their participation in the Star of the Week program.  Every “star” had their week, and made it individual with activities shared with the rest of the class.  We had sibling/parent readers (all so good), ice cream sundaes, pet visits, fireman/policeman Dads with safety messages, show and tell of personal treasures, and so much more.  The star’s week is so special and all the children gain a new vision of themselves…with a big smile on their face every day!!  Looking forward to our time with Glenn Finke at the karate dojo, and thank him for volunteering his time to teach a beginner’s class to our afternoon class.

Next month:  both the three and four year old classes will be making tray favors for the vets, with a Memorial Day theme.
